The KSP is required by Kentucky Revised Statute (KRS 12.020) to establish a state crime laboratory to conduct examination of evidence submitted by KSP and local agencies in support of the Commonwealths criminal justice system. There are currently six (6) laboratories that conduct various examinations from blood alcohol toxicology, breath alcohol maintenance, solid dosage drugs, trace/GSR/arson, firearms/toolmarks/imprint evidence, friction ridge, polygraph, photography, serology, DNA casework, as well as maintaining the Commonwealths DNA database.
