DFW-2025-048: MassWildlife is soliciting bids from Contractors to cut and remove trees (45.1 acres) and stumps at William Forward WMA in Newbury, MA (Kents Island section) by April 1, 2025; while all stump removal work (15 acres) must be completed by April 20, 2025. Trees consists of red pine and Norway spruce plantations as well as some areas of hardwoods adjacent to the plantations. Tree hedgerows surrounding the open fields will have trees removed to open up sightlines for state listed grassland birds. Stump removal will cover a smaller portion of the tree removal polygons to increase the size of the grasslands. Site is predominately flat or slightly sloped with silty loam as well occasional rocks of various sizes. Some areas have areas of shallow soil and exposed rock.
