Project Description

The road was severely damaged during Tropical Storm Chantal when two large arch-barrel corrugated metal culverts (approximately 10.5’x7’) conveying Meeting of the Waters Creek beneath Laurel Hill Road became surcharged. The road has been temporarily stabilized and one-lane of the road has been re-opened, but access for fire trucks is still severely limited.

The proposed project will replace the existing culverts with new conveyance structures and restore the 2-lane road. The project will pursue an aggressive timeline to expedite restoration of firetruck access to the Botanical Gardens and to meet deadlines associated with the portion of FEMA funding provided. Construction should be completed by September 11, 2027 to avoid the potential loss of FEMA funding.
