Project Description: DESIGN AND INSTALLATION OF BRIDGE INSPECTION PLATFORM – HARRISBURG, PA
HNTB Is soliciting bids for the design, fabrication and installation of a scaffolding platform for bridge inspection on behalf of PennDOT. The scaffolding shall meet the following criteria:
Designed for uniform load of 50 PSF.
Remain in place and have a minimum life of 10 years.
Be rigid enough for a ladder to be utilized on top.
Installed at I-81 over the Susquehanna River (Wade Bridge) in Harrisburg, PA.
Allow for drainage (must not hold water or redirect water onto the bridge elements).
Span from web to web of adjacent steel girders 18’ apart with 2’ bottom flanges centered on the webs.
Be firmly secured to the girders (without welding).
Be installed continuously over a length of 408’.
See attached photos for project location and additional information. The bottom flange of girders where platform is to be installed is approximately 80’+ above the ground (measured at the shoreline). It is anticipated that installation will start from the shoreline using a boom lift and progress over the river utilizing the installed portions of platform for installation of adjacent platform.
Bids will be separated into the following categories: - Design & Engineering - Material/Fabrication - Installation
Design & Engineering: Includes site visit prior to design for verification of measurements for design/fit. Includes submission of design drawings which bear the seal of a Professional Engineer in the state of PA for review and approval prior to installation.
Material/Fabrication: Includes the platform to remain in place as described above.
Installation: Includes mobilization, delivery of materials and all necessary access equipment, tools, personnel, and safety equipment required to install the platform.
Bids shall include a separate price for design and installation of a tie-off system along the entire 408’ length for bridge inspectors in case the scaffolding platform were to fail.
