The Division of Marine Fisheries requires two different types of tags for fisheries management, compliance, and conservation purposes. These tags are used for a variety of purposes including, but not limited to, tagging lobster & fish pots/traps, tagging striped bass, sealing containers of seafood, and tagging live and dead tautog. Each tag is printed or stamped with unique identifying information. Two different types of tags are used for these purposes. One is a 7.5 in plastic truck seal with a variety of different identifying information printed on it. The second is a self-piercing metal fish tag with identifying information stamped on the tag. The striped bass, tautog, and lobster trap tags are required by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC).
