11th at 1:00 pm CST.

1 Introduction
Iowa State University of Science and Technology (ISU) is requesting proposals from qualified contractors to build
custom loft bed legs to be used as replacement legs on existing loft beds for the Iowa State University Department
of Residence.
2 Specifications/Scope of Work
Iowa State University Department of Residence is requesting proposals from a contractor to build loft beds legs for
our existing loft beds to be used as replacements for damaged legs. The previous loft beds were built by Iowa
Prison Industries and Iowa Prison Industries can no longer produce furniture products.
ISU Department of Residence is seeking a total of 1000 loft bed leg sections, there is a critical need to have at least
500 of these loft bed leg sections delivered by May 10, 2024 to begin summer replacement with the remaining
delivered by July 31, 2024. Contractor can produce and ship/deliver in batches if needed.
Specifications
Contractor is responsible for producing replacement loft legs that are compatible with the existing lofts. University
will provide Contractor with drawings, measurements, and specifications University received from the prior supplier
of the replacement loft legs. However, Contractor shall modify the provided drawings, measurements, and
specifications or create new drawings, measurements, and specifications as needed to ensure the compatibility of
the replacement loft legs with the lofts. Contractor shall use materials that are consistent with the loft materials to
ensure a consistent aesthetic.
Each loft bed end consist of two sections, the ends are used interchangeably as bed headboard and/or
footboards. Each section consists of 2 wooden legs and three wooden crossmembers. Two sections of these legs
are connected to make one loft bed end. Each section requires a set of metal channels to be inserted within the
legs for attachment to the frame. A complete loft bed end would have 4 metal channels. Drawings with dimensions
and pictures have been attached. The drawing provided were produced by Iowa Prison Industries and Iowa State
University was given permission to use these. The use of Iowa Prison Industries drawings and specifications can
only be used for ISU purchases and only be used by the awarded supplier.
Contractor will be responsible for the sourcing of wood materials for manufacturing, screws, and finish materials.

Wood Materials
Loft bed legs are to be constructed using red oak and a natural finish applied.
Metal Channels
Each section must have a metal channel inserted in each leg post. The leg post would need a 13/16" wide x 1 3/4"
depth channel rout. ISU will provide all metal channels to the awarded contractor for contractor to insert, these will
either be delivered or ship to the Contractor depending on the location of the Contractor. Metal channels are
secured in place by wood screws. Each metal channel will require 11 screws.
Screws
The contractor will be responsible for sourcing the screws needed to attach the channels. A total of 11 screws are
needed for each section with a total of 22 screws needed for each loft bed end. These are a wood screw Philips
head #8 x 1/2" screws. Picture attached.
Pin Holes and Metal Pins
Pin Holes are 5/16" DIA x 1 3/8" depth. Metal pins to connect the two sections together to make one loft leg will be
supplied and inserted by ISU Department of Residence once legs are delivered.
Sample
Upon award Contractor will be required to produce two loft leg ends (this would be four leg sections) and provide
these to the ISU Department of Residence for review, testing and approval prior to beginning the mass production
of these legs. Once testing and approval is made by ISU Residence Halls Contractor can move forward with
production of all legs.
Delivery
Contractor will need to arrange delivery with ISU Department of Residence, all deliveries will be made to the
following address:

Deliveries can be made in batches to meet the expected timeframes.
Warranty terms and conditions
Contractor will need to provide their warranty terms and conditions as part of their response to this RFQ.
Acceptance
Regardless of receipt date and any subsequent payments made by ISU, the University shall be deemed to have
accepted goods procured hereunder only after the completed and successful installation of furniture components.
Acceptance shall be deemed to have taken place 10 days after delivery, allowing time for a complete final
inspection for compliance with furniture specifications. This statement shall govern over the preprinted acceptance
term stated on the reverse side of any resulting ISU purchase order.
Payment and Completion
Payment will be made in full after undamaged delivery to the delivery address, provided such items comply fully with
the purchase order.
