The Saville Community Sports Centre (GO Sports) is a two hundred and thirty six thousand (236,000) square foot community recreation facility primarily focused on basketball, volleyball and gymnastics. The facility is family, community and sports oriented and accessible to a variety of people of all ages and abilities. In addition to this community orientation, the facility will be operated by the University, and will host academic, research and athletic programming. With regards to this facility contract there is approximately eighty five thousand (85,000) cleanable square feet.
The Saville Community Sports Centre (GO Sports) operates from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on a daily basis and offers a variety of activities in nine (9) standard gymnasium spaces and one (1) spectator gym. This is the second largest hardwood floor oriented facility in North America. The twenty five hundred (2,500) seat spectator gym can host a variety of sporting and recreational activities. This seating will include roll out bleachers, “box” seating, accessible seating areas and standing room only. Included within the facility will be a walking track, studio activity area, a child minding area, as well as academic classrooms & community boardrooms.
The North and South Gymnasiums are internationally sized, separated by drop down curtains between the courts. The centre can host at least nine (9) regulation basketball games or twenty one (21) regulation volleyball games at any given time.
The Spectator Gym will host large scale events for University and elite level sports such as basketball, volleyball and gymnastics.. The facility is a Provincial and National Training Centre for several more of its core sports.
The Gymnastics Centre has over twenty thousand (20,000) square feet of gymnastics floor space that will provide programming space to elite level gymnastics programming. All ages and fitness levels will have programming appropriate to them.
The Program studio provides an area for a variety of group fitness, dance and athletic programming.
The Indoor Walking Track is approximately two hundred (200) metres in length and will encourage young and old alike to stay active throughout the year.
Classroom/Boardrooms are available for academic classes and community meeting spaces. There are six (6) separate spaces available to meet these needs.
The University intends to enter in an Agreement for an initial five (5) year term with the option to renew for an additional two (2) two (2) year extensions. The renewal option will be based on satisfactory performance in the initial term and on mutual agreement of the subsequent term.
