Overview
Summary

The purpose of this Request for Statement of Qualification (RFSQ) is to identify a skilled and innovative vendor to support a comprehensive communications program designed to foster community engagement, enhance the airport's brand, and maintain a strong digital presence. The selected vendor will play a key role in advancing established outreach goals, refining messaging, and creating a consistent and impactful airport identity that resonates with the community, users and stakeholders.

The scope of work includes maintaining and updating the airport’s communications materials, digital channels, and branding guidelines to ensure alignment with evolving needs and standards. This includes website management, social media integration, and crafting targeted messaging for diverse stakeholder groups. A quarterly newsletter will keep stakeholders informed, while additional services will be provided on an as-needed basis to address emerging communication or branding priorities.

This opportunity offers vendors the chance to collaborate with a dynamic airport team to make a lasting impact on public perception and engagement. By providing innovative solutions and strategic support, the chosen vendor will help shape a positive and enduring connection between the airport and its community.

Background

Airports: The County of San Mateo owns and operates two General Aviation Airports in the San Francisco Bay Area. The San Carlos Airport is located 20 miles south of downtown San Francisco, adjacent to the San Francisco Bay and is home to approximately 500 aircraft and over 25 aviation-related businesses. The Half Moon Bay Airport is located on the scenic Northern California Coast, also 20 miles south of downtown San Francisco, and is home to approximately 50 aircraft and several on-airfield businesses . Both Airports provide important services and benefits to the local community. The Airports are self-funded through user and business fees.

Airport Communications and Noise Management Program: The County of San Mateo Airports Friendly Approach program is a comprehensive noise management and community outreach initiative designed to inform, engage, and connect with the public. The program provides valuable insights into operations at the San Carlos and Half Moon Bay Airports through social media, community-focused newsletters, airport tours, and in-person outreach events. The program also prioritizes addressing community noise concerns by fostering open communication with flight schools and pilots, providing guidance on noise abatement procedures, and promoting increased adherence to established procedures to minimize the impacts of airport operations on surrounding neighborhoods.

In addition to promoting awareness of airport operations, the program highlights opportunities for community engagement, such as youth STEM programs, scholarships, public benefit flying, disaster response exercises, and numerous educational activities. By showcasing these contributions, the program emphasizes the airports’ role in supporting and enhancing our local communities.
