Radar speed signs have proven to be effective in reducing vehicle speeds in areas where speeding is a concern. By providing real-time feedback, these signs encourage drivers to stay within speed limits, promoting safer driving habits, especially in high-risk areas such as playground zones or residential neighborhoods. When drivers see their speed displayed, it raises awareness and often leads to voluntary reductions in speed, helping to lower the risk of collisions, particularly those caused by excessive speed. In addition, radar speed signs collect valuable traffic and speed data, complementing our existing equipment.
The addition of speed display devices was noted as a strategy in the Transportation Safety Plan, Focus Area 2: Speed & Aggressive Driving.
Scope
Supply and delivery of 20 radar speed signs to meet the below specifications:
•15” speed feedback characters•Minimum one line of variable text (or full matrix speed and text combined)•Solar and battery operated and included. Battery capacity and solar sizing designed for Lethbridge, AB.•Programable•Including mounting brackets for installation on street light standards•Capable of collecting traffic data (speed and count). Minimum of one-way data, two-way data preferred.•Data analysis software included•Bluetooth and cloud enabled
Delivery
•Expectation for delivery is to be within 8 weeks of award.
•All Deliveries to be DDP Lethbridge
•All deliveries to be palletized
