NYC Health + Hospitals/Correctional Health Services (CHS) is seeking information from experienced psychiatrist(s) or clinical vendor groups providing highly innovative approaches to overnight jail-based psychiatric assessments designed to enhance access to quality mental health care for incarcerated individuals.
The New York City jail system is the second largest in the nation. A significant number of individuals in the NYC Department of Corrections’ jail facilities will receive care on the mental health service. The service strives to provide safe, holistic and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for the diverse range of mental health issues that face this population, from serious mental illness to the natural struggles that accompany incarceration. The service provides some of the most comprehensive and unique treatment modalities in the country, including specialty housing units for individuals with serious mental illness, robust creative arts programming, clinics in each of the correctional facilities, substance use disorder treatment, integrated re-entry services that include alternatives to incarceration, and relationships with multiple training institutions throughout the city.
Hoping to take advantage of the flexibility and accessibility of telehealth technology to enhance delivery of innovative, high quality, evidence-based psychiatric care to people in custody overnight, the purpose of this RFI is to identify psychiatrists who can provide high-quality tele-psychiatry services for persons in custody in the New York City jail system during the overnight shift hours of 11:00PM– 6:00AM.
