Background

Cherry Island Golf Course is located at 2360 Elverta Road in Elverta. Cherry Island is one of Sacramento County's three championship golf courses. The course opened for public play on June 1, 1990. The Department of Regional Parks owns Cherry Island Golf Course. A Fee Manager operates the pro shop and restaurant and maintains the course.

Robert Muir Graves designed the course to challenge golfers of every ability level. The unique layout of the course (adjacent to two tributaries of Dry Creek and Sierra Creek) is part of a natural ecosystem of heritage blue oak woodlands, riparian forest, native grasslands, and vernal pools.

The 18-hole, Par 72 championship layout was listed by Golf Digest in 1991 as one of the Top Ten New Public Courses in the nation. Other facilities at Cherry Island include a natural turf practice range, practice putting greens, golf shop, and a restaurant with banquet room.
