Bid Attributes
1 INTENDED PURPOSE AND APPLICATION / SCOPE OF WORK
The equipment and instructional materials described within this bid will be used to teach students about the
fundamentals of chemical engineering in undergraduate courses.
Equipment and materials to teach students about steady-state and non-steady-state heat
conduction will be used in ChE 357
Equipment and materials to teach students about the fundamentals of fluid mechanics will be
used in ChE 356
2 EVALUATION CRITERIA
The evaluation criteria utilized for this RFP may be based upon, but not limited to the following criteria:
Ability to meet specifications and to support classroom curriculum
Robustness of supporting accessories and instructional materials
Total cost to ISU
Delivery date
Warranty
Responsiveness to ISU Terms and Conditions
ISU reserves the right to waive minor differences in the stated specifications, if an offered system is found to be
substantially compliant, and its’ purchase would be in the University’s best interest.
Proposal Process and Ev aluation. The proposal process employed by ISU allows Suppliers latitude in responding
to the needs of ISU. The features and requirements stated Technical Specifications represent ISU’s best assessment
of technical requirements. Suppliers should communicate with ISU to ensure they understand the equipment
requirements of the university.

3 EQUALITY OF EQUIPMENT
University will consider equipment that, in the opinion of University, is equal to or better in performance and quality
than the equipment specified in the Specifications.

4 STEADY STATE AND NON-STEADY STATE HEAT CONDUCTION
All proposals/quotations are expected to meet or exceed the technical specifications below.

5 SPECIFICATIONS
This unit will be used in the ChE course on heat transfer to demonstrate the effect of heat conduction
from a heat source to a cooled sink through a rod of material
Students should be able to monitor both transient and steady-state heat transfer
The unit must provide at least 5 unique metals for determining the material dependence of
thermal conductivity
Unit must have at least 12 temperature readings along the length of the sample
Both heating and cooling rates must be controllable
Unit should have an integrated USB connection and software for data collection with formatted
export capabilities.
Software must allow for instructors to turn off automatic calculations and allow for students to
determine necessary equations
Unit should operate with 120V, 60Hz, 1 phase., and NO external step-up transformer

9 FLUID MECHANICS

1 SPECIFICATIONS

System will be used by students taking the lecture class on fluid dynamics to provide a tangible
example of the theoretical concepts.
Fluid dynamics base module that uses computer control and data collection and has experiments
to evaluate:
measurement of flow profile in a pipe for both laminar and turbulent flow
the measurement of jet forces on deflectors with different angles of deflection
measurement of pressure losses in different pipe sections and devices
the calculation of pressure losses and determination of Reynolds number and friction factor
in various pipe sections.
