Catskill Forest Preserve Summit Stewards Program

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC)is seeking a qualified Contractor to provide an environmental education program featuring persons in the role of Forest Preserve summit steward. The Catskill Forest Preserve Summit Stewards Program must include one “chief” and 4 “regular” summit stewards who shall be responsible for patrolling the summit areas of Slide, Wittenberg and Cornell mountains, Giant Ledge, the Blackhead Range, North Point, Windham, Burnt Knob, and Acra Point.

Stewards will be responsible for patrolling marked Department trails, and designated campsites, explaining the significance of the natural resource, educating the public as to Leave No Trace™ backcountry ethics, explaining rules and regulations; and encouraging visitors to avoid trampling vegetation and utilize designated campsites whenever possible. Stewards must be present during anticipated high use times (weekends and holidays) between mid-May and mid-October of each year.

Proposers shall adhere to the NYS DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION GUIDELINES REGARDING PERMISSIBLE CONTACTS DURING A PROCUREMENT AND THE PROHIBITION OF INAPPROPRIATE LOBBYING INFLUENCE.
