Description

This procurement is in support of supplying a spare pump that has a high risk of failure for the CTF’s di-ionized water system. A Carver M series centrifugal pump is currently installed and any deviation from this model could cause significant delays in the program. This is a brand name purchase.

Barmesa and North Ridge make centrifugal pumps; however, their variations could cause malfunctions in the overall system. The Carver pump is an 8”x6”x13” American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) F998 stainless steel pump with an 8” inlet and 7” discharge, it has a max speed of 1750 rpm and extends to 5000 gallons per minute with 700 feet of head. While the Barmesa pump also has a max speed of 1750 RPM, the pump varies in size. The pump (model IA6BJM) is 8”x6”x13.5” with an inlet of 1 ½” to 8” and 1” to 6” discharge and is made of ASTM A-48 Class 30 cast iron. The ½” larger footprint may cause issues with installation, the 1” difference in discharge will cause significant changes in flow rates, and cast iron is not suitable for this system. The North Ridge pump doesn’t have lengths under 14” and the dimensions are not comparable.

Deterring away from the installed model would require a complete configuration change of DI Water main pumps. CTF does not have a spare on hand, should the current one fail.
