Overview

Summary

Project is located in the Jones Swamp Wetland Preserve in southwest Escambia County; north of Jones Creek, adjacent to 1451 Carrick Avenue.

Reduce mid-story brush and trees, 8 inch DBH (Diameter at Breast Height) and less, using a low ground pressure ASV loader or equivalent. The ASV shall be paired with a forestry mulcher attachment that can grind trees up to 8 inch DBH. All live trees and shrubs, less than 8 inch DBH, shall be ground to the existing grade. All dead snags, regardless of size, shall be felled and ground to the existing grade. Forestry mower will clear within the identified area (see map). Where the boundary is unclear, it will be marked off with flags. Any excessive ruts shall be manually restored. The machine shall avoid mulching the material into the soil. Material shall be left on the ground surface.

Scope of work, map, and insurance requirements are in attachments.

Background

Natural Resources Conservation Division will reduce wildfire threat by removing excess vegetation along Jones Creek and the Southwest Greenway Trail. Project scope includes reducing the mid-story vegetation on approximately 33 acres of a mixed slash/longleaf pine stand.
