The Government of Alberta (GoA) Ministry of Seniors, Community and Social Services (SCSS) is committed to assisting Persons with Disabilities (PWD) access the labour market by providing Career and Employment Information Services (CEIS).

PWD are an essential part of Alberta’s diverse workforce. PWD often face employment barriers that make it more difficult to prepare for, find and maintain employment than persons without disabilities. Statistics Canada data from the Canadian Survey on Disability (2022) noted that PWD:
•        Have lower rates of employment than persons without disabilities;
•        Face societal stigmas throughout the employment process (for example: obtaining supports, accessing the labour market, connecting with employers and/or sustaining employment); and
•        Have lower wages than persons without disabilities, particularly in consideration of other factors including gender, race and age.

To overcome these challenges, strategies and supports such as supported job search and employment placement, workplace accommodations and ongoing support and follow-up, will assist PWD to attain their employment goals and achieve their full potential in the workforce. Services will focus on developing skills to address and overcome identified barriers, enhancing strategies to obtain and maintain employment and making meaningful connection to employers needing to fill jobs.

This RFP has been identified as a priority and will address the career and employment needs of Albertans with disabilities. SCSS intends to select one or more of the most qualified Proponents to provide and deliver the Services described in this RFP.
