Summary
BFT will replace its existing bus wash system at its Richland, Washington facility with a new Owner-furnished bus wash system. The current system, installed in 2007, has exceeded its useful life and experiences frequent breakdowns that disrupt operations, increase maintenance costs, and elevate the risk of vehicle damage.
The project includes removal of the existing wash equipment; installation of the new bus wash system; upgrades to the water reclamation system, detergent dispensing equipment, controls, removal and installation or overhead doors, electrical and mechanical systems, and wash bay lighting; and refinishing of wash bay walls and floor coverings. Upon completion, the project will improve operational reliability, reduce vehicle damage risk, enhance water and chemical efficiency, and support safe, compliant transit maintenance operations.
Background
BFT’s existing bus vehicle wash system was installed in 2007 and has exceeded its useful service life. According to Federal Transit Administration standards, bus washing equipment has an expected useful life of approximately ten (10) years. The current system experiences frequent breakdowns that result in increased maintenance costs and disruptions to daily operations. Additionally, the outdated wash system design increases the risk of vehicle damage. Improper detergent dispensing can further damage vehicle finishes and accelerates wear on consumable components, including brushes, thereby reducing their useful life.
