In September of 2024, Hurricane Helene significantly damaged timber resources in southwest Virginia (see map for eligible localities). The U. S. Department of Agriculture is making a block grant available to the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) to provide payment for crop losses, including timber on private land. The Department of Forestry (DOF) is coordinating the timber aspect of the grant. DOF is using GIS, site productivity, and Forest Inventory and Analysis data to determine average losses by forest type, site quality, and damage extent. DOF is seeking private consulting forestry firms to verify these estimates. The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to gauge the level of interest and capacity to fulfill the contracting requirements included in the RFI document. If it is determined that there is sufficient interest and capacity within the professional forestry community, a solicitation will be posted and all respondents who provide an affirmative response to the sixth RFI question will be notified. *Please note, all Department of Forestry solicitations are posted to the Commonwealthâs electronic procurement platform eVA which automatically provides notification of solicitation posting to businesses with the associated commodity code, 94732 Conservation Services, Forest, listed.
