D2.          SCOPE OF WORK
D2.1        The Work to be done under the Contract shall consist of the remediation of the outdoor

wood deck and patio paver areas on the south and east faces of the Bill and Hellen Norrie Library.
D2.2        The major components of the Work are as follows:

(a)   Removal, storage and re-use of undamaged existing wood floor joists, and existing patio

pavers.

(b)   Removal and disposal of existing wood built-up beams, damaged existing wood floor joists (if

any), and damaged existing patio pavers (if any).

(c)    Remove existing subgrade to remove existing organic material and rebuild the subgrade.

(d)   Remove and replace existing granular base beneath wood deck and patio.

(e)   Supply and installation of wood members and patio pavers as required to replace damaged

members

(f)    Supply and installation of new wood decking and new wood built-up beams.

(g)   Supply and installation of new catch basins, and associated non-perforated drainpipes and

perforated weeping tile.

(h)   Regrade existing planting bed as required.

(i)     To avoid damage during construction, salvage, clean and stockpile existing unit pavers for

the walkway between the deck and parking lot (approximately 19 m2). Upon completion of the primary

construction works, recompact the existing walkway base course and reinstall edge restraints as

required. Add 25 mm thick bedding sand and re-install unit pavers in accordance with CW 3330.

Ensure pavers are installed flush with surrounding finished grade.

(j)     The General Contractor shall confirm with the Authority Having Jurisdiction on impacts of

executing the Work outside the doors on the east side, potentially blocking egress routes for the

building. Phasing of the patio work may be required to allow one of the two east side doors to

retain exit access if egress requirements cannot be otherwise accommodated.
