Ashtabula County Barthels Legacy Farm Dump Clean Up

Background Information: The Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR’s) H2Ohio Rivers Program is dedicated to promoting the health of Ohio’s rivers and streams.  The program invests in current best practices to improve water quality and natural function of freshwater ecosystems in Ohio through litter and trash removal, habitat restoration, enhanced aquatics monitoring and surveying, riparian preservation, and lowhead dams removal.  This project will positively impact the health of the Conneaut Creek state-designated Wild and Scenic River corridor, and the wildlife found near it by removing scrap tires, appliances, and other trash from its floodplain.  The trash would otherwise continue to negatively impact water quality and wildlife in the nearby floodplain wetlands and the river itself. The trash is located on and at the bottom of a slope and floodplain to the scenic river and a large wetland.  These areas should not be disturbed to protect the wildlife and sensitive plants that inhabit these areas.

Overview : The Department of Natural Resources is soliciting bids for the removal of surface debris (concrete debris, old appliances and automobile parts, bottles, scrap tires, and other trash) from a legacy farm dump located on private property at the end of River Rd. off of South Ridge Rd. in Kingsville Township, Ashtabula County, Ohio on private property (41.901528N -80.645260W). The site is down a steep grade and in an ecologically sensitive area with one primary access route which can be accessed by large equipment. The best option appears to be to use the existing access road through the property, which leads directly to the dump site. All tire hauling must be completed by a registered scrap tire transporter and delivered to a registered scrap tire licensed facility.
