ADDENDUM NO. 3
Addendum No. 3 has been issued for the bid for New Horse Barn at Lord Stirling Stable,
256 S. Maple Ave., Township of Bernards, Somerset County, New Jersey, Contract
No. 23015 on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, and has been delivered by electronic
transmission to all eligible contractors who have received bid specifications.
The original bid packages for the above referenced project are amended as noted.

CONCERNING BID PLANS
Item 05:
Replace Plan Sheet E-001 General Notes & Symbol List with Plan Sheet E-001R
General Notes & Symbol List.
Electrical General Notes, Wiring Methods, Paragraph #1 has been replaced with
the following: “National Electric Code (NEC, 2020) Article 547 – Agricultural
Buildings applies to this project and shall supersede any wiring methods listed
in the plans or technical specifications.”
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:
Question 07: We are assuming that article 547 (Agricultural Buildings) of the NEC is
encompassed in the electrical design for this project. If so, most of the wiring
methods included on E-001 are in violation of this article. Usually the wiring
methods for stables are; type UF cable, PVC coated MC cable and PVC conduit
with conductors, due to the corrosive atmosphere/environment in a stable.
Please advise.
Answer 07:
National Electric Code (NEC, 2020) Article 547 – Agricultural Buildings applies
to this project. Sheet E-001, Electrical General Notes, Wiring Methods,
Paragraph #1 has been modified (see E-001R) with the following: “Wiring
methods shall consist of the requirements in NEC Article 547.” This note shall
supersede any wiring methods listed in the technical specifications.

Question 08: We do not see a line isolation device at pole for the new service. Is this
required? Please advise.
Answer 08:
A Site-Isolating Device is required as per NEC Article 547.9 and should be
installed on the base of the electrical riser pole serving the barn. Overcurrent
protection is not required and the disconnect should be rated 400A,
120/208V, 3 phase, 4 wire. Refer to NEC Article 547 for additional
information.
Question 09: We do not see any mention of bonding of equipotential planes as per NEC
547.44. Please advise.
Answer 09: Equipotential bonding is required per NEC Article 547.10.
Question 10: Are all listed fixtures to be dust-resistant & water-resistant in areas where
livestock may be present? Please advise.
Answer 10:
The specified luminaires are wet location listed. The entrance of dust into the
luminaires must be minimized as part of the installation process as listed in
NEC 547.8(A).
Question 11: Should all devices and boxes be weatherproof? Please advise.
Answer 11: NEC Article 547.5(C) must be followed during installation as it pertains to
equipment enclosures, boxes, conduit bodies, and fittings.
