Curriculum End User Trainings

End User trainings allow the opportunity for participants to achieve certification in the curriculum to deliver in a provider setting. Participants must attend all parts of the training.

Session 1: Core Correctional Practices (CCP)

VIRTUAL - Attendees must have access to both a microphone and video to actively participate. Zoom link sent prior to start of training.

Dates/Time : November 15 - 18, 2022 8:00am ? 12:00pm

Core Correctional Practices instructs criminal justice workers on the core skills needed to support cognitive behavioral programming. The training is relevant to direct care, security staff, and treatment staff. Specific topics to be discussed include: (a) a brief description of the principles of effective intervention, (b) an overview of the core correctional practices (relationships skills, effective use of reinforcement, effective use of disapproval, effective use of authority, prosocial modeling, cognitive restructuring, social skills training, and problem solving skills), (c) practice of each of the core correctional practices and implementation strategies, and (d) principles of an effective behavior management system are emphasized.

CCP is an ideal training for programs in the midst of Corrections Program Checklist (CPC) action planning and are looking to improve the treatment characteristics domain area.

Targeted Staff: Any and all staff working (or intend to work) with correctional clients, specifically front-line/direct service staff.

Pre-Requisites: Work or intend to work in a correctional setting.

Cost: NONE (Free)

Session 2: CBI-SUA (Cognitive-Behavioral Interventions for Substance Use Adult)

IN-PERSON at WI DOC Corrections Training Center (3099 East Washington Avenue, Madison, WI 53704)

Dates/Time : January 9 - 12, 2023 8:30am ? 4:30pm

The Cognitive-Behavioral Interventions for Substance Use Adult (CBI-SUA) curriculum is designed for individuals that are moderate to high need in the area of substance abuse and well suited for criminal justice populations. The curriculum can be delivered as a stand-alone, outpatient substance abuse intervention, or incorporated into a larger program (e.g., residential treatment). As the name of the curriculum suggests, this intervention relies on a cognitive-behavioral approach to teach participants strategies for avoiding substance abuse. The program places heavy emphasis on skill building activities to assist with cognitive, social, emotional, and coping skill development. Such cognitive-behavioral strategies have routinely demonstrated high treatment effects.

The training includes introduction of material, demonstration of sessions, and practice with feedback. Participants must attend all days of training in order to be certified to deliver the curriculum.

Targeted Staff: Current or future group facilitators in a correctional setting who serve clients with a substance abuse need.

Pre-Requisites: Basic understanding of cognitive-behavioral concepts/interventions and group facilitation.

Cost: NONE (Free)
