License rights may be issued on an exclusive or nonexclusive basis and may include specific fields of use. NASA provides no funding in conjunction with these potential licenses.

Researchers at NASAs Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA are developing an on-board infrasonic measurement system that detects turbulence events. This technology is able to directly give pilots early warnings about danger of wake vortices or clear-air turbulence without the potential for delays and human error/interpretation introduced by air traffic control. This technology will enable a more streamlined airspace traffic management, allow for a more fuel-efficient cruise, as well as a smoother, safer, and more comfortable experience for the passengers. NASA is seeking to license this technology commercially in the United States. US Patent Pending.
