The grants must align with a strategy within the Hawaii Strategic Highway Safety Plan (https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/shsp/) and focus on changing driving behaviors, such as speeding and impaired driving.

Request for Traffic Safety Grant Applications
Federal Fiscal Year 2021
The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) is accepting grant applications from
local county and state government agencies and non-profit organizations (e.g., Safe
Community Coalitions; police departments; traffic safety advocates) interested in
applying for Federal traffic safety grants funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration. The grants must align with a strategy within the Hawaii Strategic
Highway Safety Plan (https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/shsp/) and focus on changing
driving behaviors, such as speeding and impaired driving. There will be approximately
$1 million in Federal funds available for traffic safety projects.
Applications for Federal Fiscal Year 2021 must be submitted/postmarked no later than
4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2020. Applications may be e-mailed to a Highway
Safety Specialist listed below or mailed to:
