NOTICE OF REQUEST FOR INTEREST
Klawock Airport Wildlife Hazard Assessment (WHA)
and Wildlife Hazard Management Plan

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is seeking a qualified consultant to conduct a new Wildlife Hazard Assessment (WHA) at the Klawock Airport (PAKW), which is a primary category airport. Services include the following:

  • Determining current annual wildlife densities, use, threats, and trends at Klawock Airport.

  • Testing hazing methods in order to verify successful hazing techniques that would provide a safe aircraft operational environment.

  • Developing recommendations for DOT&PF that reduce the wildlife strike risk to aircraft operations at Klawock.

It is anticipated that a “Qualified Wildlife Biologist” (per FAA A/C 150/52003-6B) be stationed at the Klawock Airport to perform a Wildlife Hazard Assessment (per FAA A/C 150/5200-38) consisting of 12 months field data collections and analysis, which may consist of documenting wildlife densities, movements, annual abundances, threats, and trends at Klawock Airport. Additionally, test, verify, and document successful wildlife hazing techniques that will work at the Klawock Airport.

Deliverables include a WHA Report, and Wildlife Hazard Management Plan report (per FAA A/C 150/5200-38) based on the WHA.

Estimated period of performance is August 2020 – February 2022 (12 months field work, and 6 months report preparation). The expected cost of these services is between $200,000 and $250,000.

You must submit your Letter of Interest describing your firm’s experience and qualifications no later than June 9, 2020, 4:00pm, prevailing time to the following.
