Audiometric and Respirator Fit Testing

Brief description: The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations require employers to perform annual audiometric testing for employees who are exposed to a noise level at or above 85 decibels for 8 hours. MnDOT has conducted a noise survey and concluded that approximately 2300 employees are, or may be, exposed to 85 decibels of noise at least one day during the year. The purpose of the audiometric testing is to determine if employees are experiencing any loss of hearing.
The OSHA regulations require employers to conduct respirator fit tests for all employees who are required to wear a respirator in order to safely perform their job duties. MnDOT has approximately 200 employees that require fit testing on an annual basis.
Responders will be familiar with, have an understanding of, and be in compliance with the various requirements in OSHA standards 29 CFR 1910.95 and 29 CFR 1910.134.
