Dynamic and Static Wireless Charging System for the Utah Inland Port Authority

USU is looking to contract with Electreon US Inc. to co-develop, build, and demonstrate a pilot ~1-mile dynamic wireless charging roadway in Utah, to support USU in developing an electrification plan and impact study for battery-electric trucks in Utah, and to work with USU in expanding workforce development and community engagement programs in Utah associated with the project. USU has the following requirements for a contractor on the project.

  • Solution provider that has or will have a pavement integrated wireless charging system in operation in Utah and available for characterization and evaluation by USU by May 2023.
  • Solution provider that has demonstrated operation of their wireless charging system with vehicle-side integration on a Kenworth Class-8 tractor or similar vehicle.
  • Solution provider that has demonstrated willingness and ability to meet the requirements of a phased project plan starting with phase 0 (pre-project planning) then extending to phase 1 (pilot demonstration), phase 2 (local deployment), and phase 3+ (regional deployment).
  • Solution provider that is capable of deploying within 9 months of purchase order
  • Solution provider that is open to collaborate and co-develop technical interfaces with USU in complementary areas such as grid-topology, smart-charge management, pavement installation design, electrical component to make wireless charging more efficient and reduce pressure on the grid, as well as on business models, traffic data analysis, HMI, etc.
  • Solution provider that supports implementation of different use cases for light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles such as applications at ports, highways, and urban areas.
  • Solution provider with a commitment to investing in Utah and scaling its operations in the state, creating jobs associated with the vision of wireless charging deployments.
  • Solution provider with experience supporting SAE standardization efforts on dynamic wireless charging, thus utilizing pilot results to help guide the establishment of industry standards.
  • Solution provider with experience in securing federal funding such as from the US DOE and DOT and is capable of supporting efforts to secure future private and public funding for the project phases.
  • Solution provider with experience developing an ecosystem of partners such as governmental agencies, engineering firms, utilities, construction firms, fleet operators and light-duty and heavy-duty vehicle OEMs.
