Project Title and Location: Construct Gym, Art and Music Classrooms, Brussels American School, Sterrebeek, Belgium

The U.S. Government is soliciting interest for a firm, fixed-priced construction contract. Work will consist of constructing a one storey, fine art and music classrooms complex (approximately. 575 m2) and a gymnasium (approximately. 1650 m2) to the Brussels American School at Sterrebeek. The construction impact to the school has to be to a minimum.

Art and Music Complex
This building will house the art and music suite (band and exercise rooms) classrooms, vestibule and restrooms. Great attention has to given to acoustical requirements. The band room is absolutely independent from the concrete structure, based on a principle of a box in a box: floated floor, baffles on independent masonry walls, suspended acoustical ceiling independent from concrete structure, double doors with special acoustical. The building has a green roof. Heating will be provided from the existing heating system. Classrooms will be heated by radiators and ventilated by forced air treatment from the Air Handling Unit (AHU). The AHU will be installed in the technical room above the vestibule. The building will get an electrical sub-panel. Fire alarm push buttons, sirens and flash lights will be installed. All rooms will be sprinkled. Built in furnishings are included - storage cabinets, display cases; marker boards, tack boards, mirrors in practice rooms.

Gymnasium
This building will include court area with movable bleachers, weight room, locker rooms, storage and vestibule. The court area will accommodate a basketball and a volleyball court. Sound protection is required for ceiling, walls and floor. Movable bleachers are provided for spectators. Heating is provided from the existing heating plant. Court Area and locker rooms are heated and ventilated by forced air treatment from an air handling unit placed on the roof above the fitness room (Rooftop unit). Locker rooms and fitness room are heated by radiators and ventilated. Building will have an electrical panel. Fire alarm push buttons, sirens and flash lights will be installed. All rooms will be sprinkled. Built in furnishings are included - lockers, benches, wall padding, overhead neat storage, mirrors, interlocking rubber tiles beneath weight equipment, dividing curtain from ceiling in court.

Supporting facilities include all required site improvements: utilities; communications; paving, walks, fire lane, curbs and gutters, storm drainage, and landscaping.

Job site mobilisation area is limited to the existing tennis court; a construction fence is required around the construction sites, the art complex will be constructed first, then the gymnasium. The covered walkway will be temporarily rerouted during construction.

The estimated cost of the project is between US$5,000,000.00 and $10,000,000. Responses are desired from firms who can demonstrate recent experience and excellent past performance in design/construction of similar facilities, but expressions of interests will be accepted from all interested parties. The qualifications of both the design and construction firm will be evaluated. Solicitation will be issued on or about 2 July 2008.

Potential offerors are encouraged to submit their company name, mailing address and telephone, fax number and e-mail address of an English speaking contact no later than 2 July 2008 to Contract Specialist: Ms. Kathleen A. Kern, e-mail: kathleen.kern@us.army.mil, telephone number: +49(0)611 816 2621; facsimile number: +49(0)6118162618.
