UCLA ADVERTISEMENT FOR EXECUTIVE ARCHITECT OR ENGINEER
UCLA requests a written response to this Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the purpose of selecting an Executive Architect or Executive Engineer for the design and engineering of multiple campus-wide network cabling/connectivity projects.
SOD - TIER Network Installation (Dentistry Building) Project Number 945993.01
SOM - Jules and Doris Stein - Connect Cabling Project Number 946081.01
SOM - Marion Davies Connect Cabling Project Number 946081.02
SOM Southwest Campus Connect Cabling (Rehabilitation) Project Number 946083.01
SOM Southwest Campus Connect Cabling (Warren) Project Number 948083.02
These projects are anticipated to include a pre-design phase. This RFQ is for full design and engineering services; however, the University reserves the right to defer negotiations for services other than pre-design services until completion of the pre-design phase, and to select one or more architectural or engineering design firms to execute the projects. Final selection and appointment of the Executive Architect or Executive Engineer for the design/engineering phase is contingent upon approval by the University of California Office of the President.
Located on the University of California, Los Angeles campus the campus-wide connectivity series of projects will involve design and engineering for the construction of new or renovation of a series of existing network hub rooms as needed, to house high-end data/voice network equipment, rack-mounted UPS, and associated copper and fiber cabling distributed among multiple buildings. Projects will also involve infrastructure to be designed for the distribution of approximately 10,000 copper network cables from the newly constructed hub rooms to existing office, laboratory and other teaching spaces totaling an approximate 350,000 square foot area distributed among six (6) buildings. The current estimated construction cost is approximately $5,000,000. The projects may involve multiple phases and bid packages, and may be subject to accelerated design and construction. The scope of work for this RFQ may include other campus connectivity projects.
Firms submitting an RFQ response must have significant demonstrated experience in the design and engineering of data/voice network hub rooms and cable distribution methodologies, including responding to the requirements of state and federal review agencies. Experience in an academic, research and medical patient care environment is preferred.
The complete request for qualifications (RFQ) packet will be available at www.capital.ucla.edu/rfq.html. The RFQ packet may also be obtained by submitting a request via facsimile (fax number 310-206-8392; attn: Carol Esser) starting Thursday, June 5, 2008, and authorizing use of the firm's Federal Express account for return of the packet. Responses to the RFQ are due by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2008. A short list of firms will be determined by a screening committee; further steps in the selection process will be at the discretion of the selection committee.
Every effort will be made to ensure that all persons, regardless of race, religion, sex, color, ethnicity, and national origin have equal access to contracts and other business opportunities with the University.
