The Texas General Land Office (the € GLO € ) is currently seeking a highly skilled contractor(s) to construct a Galveston Island Seawall Handicap Access Ramp (the € Project € ). The Project is for the purpose of providing a handicap accessible path from the seawall near 57th Street to the beach. The Work involves constructing an approximate 120 linear feet of ramp, foundations for ramp, handrails, and walkway grating and approximately 30 linear feet of walk-able beach matting, as well as protection of the environment, erosion control, construction surveying, and clean up. The work will occur during a time period defined by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (the € USFWS € ) as a turtle nesting period for five sea turtle species defined as either threatened or endangered. Turtle nesting period for the beach has been identified by the federal regulatory agencies to occur between March 15 and September 30, with peak nesting occurring between April 1 and September 1. This project requires the Contractor to implement a Turtle Monitoring Plan as specified in the Project Manual. Work must be implemented in a manner to follow all applicable laws and regulations set forth by the local, state, and federal regulatory agencies having jurisdiction over the project. The GLO anticipates that construction will take approximately 45 calendar days and construction must be completed no later than July 31, 2008 due to the Project € s funding.
