The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is supporting the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MOEVT) Zanzibar to improve the quality of education in Zanzibar through a number of initiatives, including the Completion Retention and Access for Tanzanians to Education (CREATE) project and the Radio Instructions to Strengthen Education (RISE) projects. The MOEVT is currently involved in a number of reforms in an effort to achieve a number of universally cherished education goals: access, equity and quality.
The MOEVT has recently requested USAID to provide furniture, desks and chairs for 60 classrooms that were built by community efforts to relieve students who were sitting on the floor. This request has been reviewed in light of USAID support to the Zanzibar Education Development Program (ZEDP) and it involves acquiring and delivering 3,000 school desks and 3,000 chairs.
