South 228th Street Grade Separation at BNSF Railway

Notice is hereby given that the City of Kent, Washington, will receive sealed bids at the City Clerk's office through April 2, 2008 up to 1:45 p.m. as shown on the clock on the east wall of the City Clerk's Office on the first floor of City Hall, 220 4th Avenue South, Kent, Washington. All bids must be properly marked and sealed in accordance with this "Call for Bids". Bids must be delivered and received at the City Clerk's office by the above-stated time, regardless of delivery method, including U.S. Mail. All bids will be opened and read publicly aloud at 2:00 p.m.

The project consists of approximately 2,000 feet of road improvements including constructing a 4-lane three span bridge over the BNSF Railroad tracks and approach roadway on earth embankments retained by structural earth walls. The bridge includes a 106 foot main span and two 11 foot end spans using prestressed concrete girders, with adjacent structural earth retaining walls. Also included are approximately 50,000 CY of West Hill Sand Excavation and fill for walls, reinforced concrete walls, storm drainage, sanitary sewer, water, lighting, erosion control and other roadway improvements.

The Engineer's estimated range for this project is between $9,000,000 to $12,000,000. For technical questions, please call Mark Madfai at 253-856-5521.

There will be a MANDATORY PRE-BID CONFERENCE on Tuesday, March 25th at 2:00 PM in the City of Kent's Council Chambers East and West, Kent City Hall, 220 4th Avenue S. Contact Mark Madfai at (253) 856-5521 with any questions.

Bid documents may be obtained by contacting the City of Kent Engineering Department, Nancy Yoshitake at 253-856-5508 or you may download bid documents online.

Bids must be clearly marked "Bid" with the name of the project on the outside of the envelope, addressed to the City Clerk, 220 4th Avenue South, Kent, WA 98032-5895. Only sealed bids will be accepted. No facsimiles will be considered.

Each bid shall be in accordance with the plans and specifications and other contract documents now on file in the office of the City Engineer, City of Kent, Washington. Bid documents can be downloaded online at no charge, or copies of the Special Provisions may be purchased at a non-refundable cost of $75.00 for each set. Copies of the WSDOT Standard Specifications are available for perusal only.

A cashier's check, postal money order or surety bond in the amount of 5% of the bid is required.

The City of Kent reserves the right to reject any and all bids on any or all schedules or alternates or to waive any informalities in the bidding and shall determine which bid or bidders is the most responsive, satisfactory and responsible bidder and shall be the sole judge thereof.

No plea of mistake in the bid shall be available to the bidder for the recovery of his/her deposit or as a defense to any action based upon the neglect or refusal to execute a contract.

Bidders must submit with their initial bid a signed statement as to whether they have previously performed work subject to the President's Executive Order No. 11246.

No bidder may withdraw his/her bid for a period of sixty (60) days after the day of bid opening.

Upper Mill Creek Culvert Replacement at SE 264th Street

Notice is hereby given that the City of Kent, Washington, will receive sealed bids at the City Clerk's office through April 8, 2008 up to 9:45 a.m. as shown on the clock on the east wall of the City Clerk's Office on the first floor of City Hall, 220 4th Avenue South, Kent, Washington. All bids must be properly marked and sealed in accordance with this "Call for Bids". Bids must be delivered and received at the City Clerk's office by the above-stated time, regardless of delivery method, including U.S. Mail. All bids will be opened and read publicly aloud at 10:00 a.m.

The project consists of removal and disposal of a 24" and 30" dia. CMP culvert which will be replaced with a 12'-7" x 5'-2" x 60 LF three-sided corrugated aluminum box culvert (HS-25 loading) in Upper Mill Creek on SE 264th Street. The work includes coordination with culvert manufacturers to provide timely stamped shop drawings, fabrication and supply of the box culvert.

A maximum of 20 working days for the temporary road closure will be allowed to install the box culvert during the HPA fish window. A temporary creek bypass system and fish capture by a fisheries biologist is required. The project also includes storm drain removal/replacement, 220 LF of 10" D.I. CL 52 water main with 33 LF in a 18" O.D. steel casing pipe, dewatering, temporary bike/pedestrian detour, asphalt paving, concrete sidewalk, concrete curb and gutter, rock walls channelization and restoration.
