Based on feedback from the business community the Forest Service intends to compete the following requirement : Purchase 30 hand held Iridium satellite phones (or equal). The hand held satellite phones shall allow individuals or small teams to travel and operate remotely and have voice capability. The phones may be used extensively in emergency situations. Coverage area must include Alaska, Canada, the 48 contiguous states and the Caribbean. Provider must have the capability to provide custom solutions for unique applications and their carrier must have a call dropped rate of no more than 5% and a connection rate of 98% or better based on independent studies. Phones and service comes with a US based Service Level Agreement for repairs and customer service.
The government also has phones available for trade-in (details will be provided in the RFQ)
The RFQ should be posted on or about May 22, 2008.
