The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Forestry is seeking sealed bids for the sale of timber. This sale is approximately 269 acres of thinning and clearcuts of slash pine plantations on John M Bethea State Forest in Baker County, Florida. There are approximately 244 acres that will be thinned. Of this acreage, 83 acres is a marked fifth row thinning. Timber available for harvest includes all timber marked with blue paint. Unmarked timber is not to be harvested or damaged. The remaining 161 acres of thinning will be fourth row logger select thinned. Timber available for harvest includes every fourth row for equipment access and select trees in the remaining three rows. In the three select rows, trees to be removed include diseased, deformed, defective, and suppressed trees. In addition, a small portion of the intermediate and codominant trees may need to be removed in order to leave approximately 70 square feet of basal area throughout the stands. The targeted basal area can be adjusted by the Forester-In-Charge due to variations in stand and site conditions found within the sale area. The clearcut area consists of approximately 25 acres of which over half has been damaged by bugs from the previous wildfire. All pine timber within the clearcut sale boundaries is available for harvest. Sale boundaries are firelines, roads, flagging or natural boundaries. Estimated volumes to be removed are 1,634 tons of pulpwood, 2,710 tons of super pulpwood (micrologs), and 1,089 tons of chip-n-saw and better. The contract term will be for twelve months.
