Description
Naval Air Warfare Center (Aircraft Division) Patuxent River, MD, Code 4.6.7.4, is seeking information from potential sources for a commercially available shorty style, or sometimes called spring style wetsuit to be used by Navy Aviation Search and Rescue Swimmers. The wetsuit shall be a style used for surf type swimming and not for underwater diving. The wetsuit shall contain the following specifications:
1. Material:
a. Thickness shall be 2-3 mm or any combination of the two thicknesses.
b. Manufactured of 4-way flex neoprene (commonly referred to as Ultra Flex, Future Flex, Elastomax, Hyper stretch etc).
c. Material must not retain water and have UV protection.
d. Color: Black/blue, black or blue or International Orange.
e. No manufacture logos on outside of suit.
2. Construction:
a. Front and back panels shall be smooth and sealed to provide wind protection. (Material is commonly referred to as Smoothskin, Glideskin, etc.)
b. High demand areas such as shoulders and underarms need to be seamless.
c. Seams shall be glued and blind stitched with critical tape.
d. Sleeves shall not extend beyond the elbow and shall be sealed with smoothskin or be unfinished.
e. Zipper shall be in the back, be corrosion resistant and be able to be secured.
f. Neck seal shall be adjustable to prevent water intrusion.
3. Sizing: For off-the-shelf procurement the wetsuit shall meet the below sizing requirements for both men and women.
4. Custom Fitting:
a. Companies responding shall be able to provide Custom Fitting for SAR aircrewmen not meeting the measurement criteria described in item 3.
b. Custom procedures shall be provided for review when submitting responses to this RFI.

The wetsuit materials must comply with the restrictions set forth in the Berry Amendment, (USC, Title 10, Section 2533a). Companies responding to this request should provide detailed information on their product to Ms Jeanette Moronta, AIR 2.2.2.8, at jeanette.moronta@navy.mil. Respondents must clarify if their firm can provide commercial or non-developmental items that could be modified to meet the Rescue and Survival Team's needs. Proprietary information MUST be marked as such, on a page-by-page basis. This Request for Information, (RFI) does not in any way constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP) and as such, is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government. The Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this notice, nor otherwise pay for information solicited. Data will not be returned. To be of maximum benefit to the program, responses must be received no later than 15 April 2008.
