Synopsis:

The US Military Academy is seeking interested concerns in competing for a requirement to provide sound level measurement equipment to support the objectives of the USMA/SOPMOD Muzzle Device Optimization Program. The research being conducted in this program is aimed at assessing the relative performance of a range of existing commercial off the shelf (COTS) muzzle devices. One critical measure of the of muzzle device performance is the sound pressure levels (SPL) produced as the round exits the barrell. The ability to quantify exactly how great a change in SPL is produced by various devices will assist in conducting the relative comparison of COTS and custom designed muzzle devices with respect to prioitzed operator requirements. To ensure validity ofresults, Sound level meter requirements (SLM) must meet or exceed preset standards.
