This document serves as a Notice of Intent to award as a sole source requirement to Keyence Corp. of America at the current location of Customs and Border Protection Laboratory, Chicago, IL.
CBP needs to upgrade the current Keyence digital microscope, a unique product that captures images through a unique technology in a compact design, in that more people can use it in analyzing different commodities at higher magnifications (past 500x) while others use it at lower magnifications. With this upgrade we will be able to do more measurements at high speed. We have the unique lens at higher magnification and the products made by different vendors cannot be used with the higher lens because their lenses will not fit the unique design and technology.
This proposed contract action is for supplies and/or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 6.302. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit Proposals. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals; however, all proposals received by the closing date and time will be considered. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Any vendors who believe they can provide the equipment and can provide proof of ability to meet the requirements should email or fax their company s capabilities information to the attention of Susan Knose by 3:00 p.m. EST,
July 30, 2008. Information submitted should support the company s capability to perform the work required.
