TOTAL HUBZONE SETASIDE. This project includes, but is not limited to, construction surveying, clearing and grubbing, diverting small stream flow, soil erosion and sediment control, temporary traffic control, installation of a new, poured-in-place road bridge, removal of a concrete vented ford, streambed restoration, small road restoration area, and placing aggregate base course to transition to the existing roadway. The Federal Highway Administration Standard Specification for Construction of Roads and bridges on Federal Projects (FP-03) supplemented by special project specifications will govern this requirement. The period of performance for this project is 300 calendar days from the Notice to Proceed date, which includes a six-month period where no work can occur within 25 of the high-water level between October 15 and April 15. The magnitude of construction is between $250,000 and $500,000. The project is located on the Appalachian Ranger District in Yancey County, North Carolina. A pre-bid meeting will be held on July 22, 2008 at 1:00 pm sharp, EDT at the project site. Directions to the pre-bid are to take US 19E from Burnsville, NC to Micaville. Turn Right on State Road 80 and travel approximately 9.5 miles to the Mount Mitchell Golf Course. Turn right and travel about 5 miles past the Black Mountain Campground to the Ford Site. You may contact the District office at (828) 682-6146 for more detailed directions if necessary. It is STRONGLY ENGOURAGED that all prospective bidders attend this meeting. All documents will be uploaded to this site on or about July 3, 2008. You should register to receive notification found on this website after which you will receive an eMail notifying you that the documents have been uploaded. BID DUE DATE: August 6, 2008 at 2:00 pm EDT. Again, this project is set-aside for HUBZONE contractors only. HUBZONE certification must have been received not later than the time proposals are due.

Due to unforseen fire funds borrowing, it is necessary to cancel the South Toe River Bridge solicitation in its entirety. Should funding be received in the future to build this bridge, a new presolicitation notice will be posted. Thank you for your interest and I apolgize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
