Department of Energy (DOE) Prime Contract DE-AC56-99CH10888, is the Prime Contractor for the Mixed Oxide (MOX) Fuel Fabrication Facility (MFFF) Project to be built at the Savannah River Site (Aiken, South Carolina, USA). Under the Terms and Conditions of the Prime Contract, MOX Services is responsible for the procurement of Supplies, Services, and Construction in support of the MOX Project.

MOX Services is seeking potential vendors for the Design Phase and Supply Phase of Calcination Furnace, Oxygen-to-Metal Ratio Determination Furnace, Pyrohydrolysis Furnace, Resintering Furnace, Automatic Programmable Autoclaves, Gravimetry Furnace and Electrolytic Moisture Analyzer.

Below is a detailed description of the Laboratory Furnaces and Autoclaves:

Calcination Furnace:

The equipment is made up of the following components:

-One muffle furnace, cooled by chilled water if required, and its related equipment as follows:

-One furnace support for fixing the furnace at the glovebox bottom

-One thermocouple

-One jacket for furnace cooling by water if required

-One control unit including one transformer, one temperature controller and one timer.

O/M Furnace:

The equipment is made up of the following components:

-One tubular electrical furnace, cooled by chilled water if required, and its related equipment as follows:

-One furnace support for fixing the furnace at the glovebox bottom

-One tube made of quartz and scavenged by gas

-Four baskets made of platinum alloyed with rhodium capable to contain 4 pellets each

-One boat made of quartz capable to contain four baskets, placed in the quartz tube

-Two thermocouples

-One guiding device for sample loading/unloading

-One jacket for cooling by water if required

-One directional valve

-One control unit including one transformer, one temperature controller and one timer

Pyrohydrolysis Furnace:

The equipment is made up of the following components:

-One tubular electrical furnace, cooled by chilled water if required, and its related equipment as follows:

-One furnace support for fixing the furnace at the glovebox bottom

-One tube made of quartz

-One boat made of platinum alloyed with rhodium containing powder or pellet sample, and placed in the quartz tube

-Two thermocouples

-One guiding device for sample loading/unloading

-One jacket for cooling by water, if required

-One steam generator composed of:

-One heater

-One flask

-One water level detector

-One condenser cooled by chilled water

-Glassware to recover the pyrohydrolysis product (not required in the Equipment Supplier scope of supply)

-One control unit including one transformer, one temperature controller and one timer.

Resintering Furnace:

The equipment is made up of the following components:

-One furnace cooled by water, and its related equipment as follows:

-One furnace support for fixing the furnace at the glovebox bottom

-One jacket for cooling by water

-Thermocouples

-One mechanical device for supporting the samples

-One vacuum probe, one pressure sensor, one relief valve and one manual air inlet valve

-One vacuum circuit in order to remove oxygen and moisture from the furnace before heating

-One Argon circuit

-One cooling circuit

-One control unit including temperature controllers, one timer, one numeric recorder and warnings generated by different abnormalities (low water flow rate, high water temperature, door open for instance).

Autoclaves:

The equipment is made up of the following components:

-One screwed-lid regulated autoclave with a volume of 4 liters able to accept a sample holder

- A sample holder

-A cylinder furnace with temperature monitoring thermocouples
-
Valves and pressure and temperature sensors

Gravimetry Furnace:

-The Gravimetry Furnace is made up of the following components, all installed in the glovebox:

-One Vertical tubular furnace

- One Moving plate for supporting basket and closing furnace

-One Guided devise for basket loading/unloading into the furnace

-One removable basket supporting four (4) crucibles

-One control unit

Electrolytic Moisture Analyzer:

The equipment is made up of the following components:

-One small, tubular furnace (greater than or equal to 1100 deg C)

-One nitrogen supply system (connected to the furnace)

-One electrolytic moisture analyzer (connected to the furnace)

-One control unit capable of controlling and displaying relevant parameters of the furnace, moisture analyzer, and by-pass valve
