Description
The US Army Joint Munitions and Lethality Life Cycle Management Command (JM&L; LCMC), Picatinny Arsenal, NJ anticipates issuing a Request for Proposal (RFP)    for the delivery and assessment of Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) for    possible use in the Excalibur M982 Extended Range Precision Guided 155mm    artillery munition.    An IMU is a 6 degree-of-freedom digital inertial    measurement subsystem that is a component of a navigation system and which    consists of 6 micro-machined silicon sensors; 3 accelerometers, and 3-gyros.    The USG is seeking to test IMUs from alternate product sources that currently    meet the requirements of the Excalibur IMU Performance Specification, and    Electrical Interface Control Document, or hereon known as the IMU Spec and    ICD.    It is anticipated that the contractor shall provide 4-6 IMUs and conduct    characterization assessment before, then again after the Army has conducted    environmental conditioning at Picatinny Arsenal, NJ. The IMU Spec and ICD have    limited distribution to DOD contractors; therefore, in order to receive this    documentation, interested sources must be DOD contractors and provide DOD    certification to the Government. Upon receipt of this verification, two    documents will be sent to the authorized contractor.    These documents describe    the IMU functional, physical, and environmental requirements for operation in    precision-guided, 155mm cannon-launched artillery projectiles. Without these    two documents, interested sources will be incapable of responding to this or    any possible future notice involving the IMU Spec and ICD. This effort is not    expected to exceed 6 months from start of contract.    The Government reserves    the right to make multiple awards.    This notice does not constitute a formal    Request For Proposal (RFP).      The formal RFP which will address a requirement    to produce these IMUs will be posted within the next 30 days. The point of    contact for this requirement is Ms. Christina Nigro, AMSML-AQ-CA, Bldg 9,    Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey 07806-5000. E-mail: christina.nigro@us.army.mil,    Phone No. 973-724-3125.    NOTE: Contractors must be registered in the Central    Contractor Registration (CCR) database by accessing the CCR web site at    http://www.ccr.gov in order to be eligible for contract award.    Numbered Note 8    applies to this acquisition.
