The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), the Department of Defense (DoD) Medical School and Health Sciences University, hereby announces its intent to acquire on a sole source basis with Medical Education Technologies, Inc. (METI) in Sarasota, FL the following equipment/parts:

The Adult HPS is a full-body instrumented adult mannequin patient simulator with full adult physiologic and pharmacological model, heart and breath sounds; lung and chest wall compliance; pulses to include radical, brachial, pedal, femoral, and carotid; patient voice, difficult and normal airway, genital/urinary system, neuromuscular blockade thumb twitch, automatic drug recognition system, reactive eyes, pneumothorax needle decompression, chest tube placement and management, pericardiocentesis, diagnostic peritoneal lavage, chest compression with cardiac output, defibrillation with auto detection, transthoracic cardiac pacing, 5-lead ECG, AED integration, scenario editor, patient editor, remote control, and data recorded; full anesthesia capability with respiratory gas exchange, anesthesia agent uptake and distribution system and anesthesia gas supply kit. Trauma and disaster casualty capabilities: bleeds, urinates under simulation model control. The Pediatric HPS is a full-body instrumented pediatric mannequin with full pediatric physiologic and pharmacological model. The equipment interfaces to clinical monitors from Philips, Datex, Marquette, and Propaq, the exact equipment used in the Ors, ICU or the wards.

METI is the only company that offers a patient simulator with complex physiologic and pharmacologic modeling, respiratory gas exchange and that interfaces with an actual clinical monitor. These features are essential for teaching anesthesia, critical care and other complex medical scenarios.

This award is IAW FAR Part 13.106-1(b)(1) and authorizes USUHS to award contracts when only one source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements.
