Identify and enumerate benthic diatoms collected in streams and rivers of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. A maximum of 17 samples (800 valves/400 organisms) will be provided for analysis (identified and enumerated) under the resulting contract. Organisms shall be identified at the species/variety level. ITIS naming conventions and TSN's shall be applied where possible. A digital image synoptic voucher collection shall be created and used for outside verification of taxonomic designations. Deliverables shall include a site by taxon spreadsheet that includes corrected abundances or densities and a database-format file with the same information, in addition to summary diatom metrics and QA/QC results. In addition, the digital voucher collection, permanent side mounts and remaining sample fractions shall be returned. Lab analysis and documentation shall be completed within four (4) months of contract award.
The routine use of diatom species in biological monitoring is relatively new, and diatom taxonomy can be difficult and is often ambiguous. Prospective vendors shall provide a minimum of three (3) references of past performance similar to these acquisition requirements, at time of quote submittal to validate the contractor as a recognized and well-regarded laboratory, to establish credibility.
All deliverables shall be FOB Destination to YUGA Fairbanks Administrative Center, Fairbanks, AK.
