Gatton Creek Trail Bridge is a damaged single span glu-lam girder (2 girder bridge) trail bridge approximately 70 feet long with 3 foot wide glu-lam deck.

The Gatton Creek Trail Bridge was damaged during a winter storm event by falling trees. One glu-lam girder, one steel diaphragm and the handrail system was damaged during the storm. The Olympic National Forest intends to award a contract to repair the bridge via the disassembly of the bridge and installation of REPLACEMENT PARTS.

The Olympic National Forest has ordered REPLACEMENT PARTS including: one new glu-lam girder, new decking panels and running boards, a completely new railing system and all new associated hardware (& nails). All of the above shall be utilized in the repair of the bridge. The contractor shall field cut, drill, chemically treat (hand treat) and assemble the new handrail system. Roofing asphalt shall be applied per the top the glulams before installing the new decking panels and running boards. Roofing asphalt and Copper Naphthenate treatment shall be supplied by the contractor.

The majority of the steel hardware on Gatton Creek Trail Bridge shall be reused except where clearly damaged or as noted in the drawings. A REPLACEMENT PARTS list shall be included in the final solicitation along with original drawings and shop drawings. The REPLACEMENT PARTS shall be available during the first week the performance period (Early September) and the delivery and unloading shall be performed by the contractor in Quinault, Washington at a designated location at the Forest Service Quinault Sewage Treatment Plant . Disassembly of the majority of the existing bridge is highly likely to successfully install the REPLACEMENT PARTS in the repair of the bridge. This could include removing approach fill(s) and endwall(s) if needed.

The hired contractor shall be responsible for the mobilizing all REPLACEMENT PARTS, construction materials, construction equipment and other materials to the construction site along the Gatton Creek Trail. Access to the site is limited due to blow down (trees) in the vicinity. The Forest anticipates the use of a helicopter by the contractor to complete this project. Helicopter use and shall be permitted from Sept 15th to Sept 30th . A helicopter landing area will not be provided in this contract.

Temporary shoring (and/or approved cable supports) may be necessary to complete the project safely, to protect resources and to prevent damage of government property. Work in and around Gatton Creek must meet the requirements of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Forest Service and WA State Dept of Fish and Wildlife to be included in the solicitation.

All removed materials not suitable to future bridge maintenance shall become the property of the contractor and shall be disposed of properly (per Washington State law).

There is no vehicle access to the bridge site and a site visit (approx 0.5 mile hike) is recommended to all interested in the project. This solicitation will be issued under FAR Part 12 for a commercial service. All responsible sources may submit an offer which will be considered by the government. In accordance with FAR 4.1102(a), prospective contractors must be registered in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) database prior to award of a contract. Lack of registration in the CCR on the part of the offeror will render an offeror ineligible for award.

Contract award will be to the offeror whose offer, conforming to the solicitation, is the best value to the government. The government estimated value is between $25,000 and $75,000.

The Gatton Creek Bridge is located in Washington on the Olympic National Forest on the Pacific Ranger District in Grays Harbor County and further located in T. 23N., R. 9 W., Section 21. From Hoquiam, WA travel north on Hwy 101 for 39 miles CR 9340. (South Shore Road) Travel for 2.8 miles to the Gatton Creek Trailhead. The site may be accessed by walking up the Gatton Creek Trail for 0.5 miles. Access to the bridge site from the North is limiting due to blow down in the trail.

The Olympic National Forest intends to issue a solicitation in approximately 10 days.
