PUBLIC NOTICE OF REQUEST FOR INFORMATION
(RFI)
For
Non-School Hour Programs for Children
and Youth
The Department of Human
Services, Office of Youth Services (OYS) requests information and feedback from
interested schools, community-based organizations, other public entities and
private organizations, consortia of these agencies, community members, and/or
concerned individuals that will assist the OYS in prioritizing the need for non-school hour programs and
activities for children and youth statewide.
The information gathered from the RFI may result in the development of a
Request for Proposal (RFP).
The OYS is particularly
interested to receive feedback on the type of activities and programs that
communities believe are needed to provide children and youth with meaningful
experiences as they develop and enhance their life skills and resiliency, and
increase protective factors in their lives.
Feedback on the cost range of providing the activities and programs, and
preferences for grant amounts (e.g., under $50,000, to supplement on-going
programming efforts; or, e.g., $50,000 - $100,000, to fund new, innovative, or
more comprehensive programming) is also being requested.
The following are examples of
services and activities that OYS procured in the past to provide non- school
hour programming in communities:
Positive youth
development activities;
Drug and violence
prevention services and activities;
Academic,
physical and social skills building activities during before and after school
hours; intercession periods; weekends and holidays;
Youth Board and
youth-driven community services;
Life skills
building in the outdoors such as camps, ropes courses;
Arts and creative
expressions.
Funding sources for this
service may include Federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
Programs and/or Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities State Grants.
