USAID/Ethiopia Public Announcement for DDT Procurement

USAID/Ethiopia is considering an award of a sole source new contract to the Adami Tulu Pesticide Processing Share Company in Ethiopia in an amount of $2.65 million for the procurement of DDT. The award date will be o/a June 30, 2008.The purpose of this procurement is to support the Ethiopia s National Malaria Control Program (NMCP), more specifically to support the indoor residual spraying (IRS) in Oromia Region.

In Ethiopia the Malaria transmission is seasonal with two peak transmission seasons: the main transmission season is from September to November after the heavy rains and small transmission from May to June after the short rains. The RHB and FMOH representatives have raised their concern of the likelihood of malaria epidemics this year and requested USAID/Ethiopia to implement the IRS activities as soon as possible before the start of the main peak transmission season. Failure to support this activity in a timely fashion would, hence, undermine the standing, contribution and effort of the U.S. Government to the National Malaria Control Program in the country.

To the best of USAID Ethiopia knowledge, the Adami Tulu Pesticide Processing Share Company is the only factory that produces and supplies DDT 75% WDP and no other supplier is yet registered to import or produce DDT 75% WDP in the country
If you are interested and or know of any other potential sources, please submit a capability statement to caddis@usaid.gov with a copy to mcsow@usaid.gov or fasfawossen@usaid.gov by 8:30AM, Addis Ababa time, June 19, 2007.USAID will consider and respond to all inputs received.
