Synopsis:
Added: May 21, 2008 1:26 pm
Mechanically reduce the fuel load, improve wildlife habitat and improve watershed health by controlling the noxious weed saltcedar (tamarisk). Total treatment area is approximately 300 acres located in Morton County, Kansas more or less 12 miles northeast of Elkhart, Kansas. All work will be accomplished with a machine-mounted horizontal saw equipped with tires or tracks to reduce ground impacts and ride over remaining stumps and slash. Deep sandy soil is common within the treatment areas, so caution is warranted.

Dominant vegetation consists of tamarisk with stems ranging from 0.5 in. to 8 in. diameter at 6 in. above the ground. All of the treatment areas are on almost flat terrain with slopes less than 10 percent. Patches or individual cottonwood and willow are also present; only the tamarisk will be treated mechanically. All tamarisk stems (live and dead standing) within the treatment areas will be treated mechanically. The boundary of the treatment units will be existing roads, powerlines, fence lines, the Cimarron River, or flagged by ribbon.

The estimated starting date for this contract is June 30, 2008, with a completion date of September 30, 2008, or approximately a 90 day period of performance. The contractor shall maintain progress at a rate that shall assure completion and acceptance of work within this time frame.

Estimated dollar value of this contract is between $25,000.00 and $100,000.000. The solicitation will be restricted to small businesses. The small business size standard for this type of work (NAICS Code 115310) is $6.5 million.
