Synopsis:

THIS IS A SOLE SOURCE SYNOPSIS! The 45th Contracting Squadron has a sole source requirement for a C20 5-axis vertical milling center manufactured by the Hermle Machine Co., LLC. The system will also include: Heidenhain iTNC 530, main spindle 10,000 RPM, SK40, 30 tool pockets, rigid clamping table, coolant tank unit, swarf pan, manual cabin door and top, polycarbonate panes, CAMplete Truepath options, main spindle 18,000 RPM, HSK-A63, swivell NC-rotary table O 280, T-slots for SRT O 280, secondary clamping plates (2), compressed air supply and miscellaneous accessories (comp. of thermal expansion iTNC, hand-held control unit iTNC, touch probe renishaw, blum tool breakage measurement, swarf flushing nozzle and tooling package). The requested delivery to Patrick AFB, Florida will be approximately thirty (30) days after receipt of a purchase order. This is a Sole Source with Hermle Machine Co., LLC IAW FAR 6.302-1. Hermle Machine Co., LLC is the only source capable of fulfilling the government's requirement as the Hermle C20 offers full 5-axis control utilizing an intuitive control system and is small enough to fit within the confines of the intended facility. A 5-axis machining center will allow complex shapes to be built at extremely high accuracy and at a much faster rate. Other systems of similar capabilities are much larger and will not fit within the facility that it will be housed. The Hermle system also allows a greater reliance on software control versus manual control of equipment. Since the operators will not receive formal machinist training, the control system built into the Hermle will still allow full utilization of the equipment. Two other manufacturers of vertical machining centers were considered in the evaluation but either did not offer the same level of performance and ease of use as the Hermle, or were too large to fit within the facility. This item/service utilizes Standard Industrial Code (SIC) 3541 with a business size of 500 employees and North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code of 333512. Interested firms may identify their capability to respond to this requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes; however, the government will consider any responses from capable sources received within 10 days after date of publication of this synopsis. 45 CONS/LGCB has determined that Hermle Machine Co., LLC is the only source capable of providing this requirement.
