This is a combined Synopsis/Solicitation for Commercial Items prepared in accordance with FAR Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. THIS ANNOUNCEMENT CONSTITUTES THE ONLY SOLICITATION; QUOTES ARE BEING REQUESTED AND A WRITTEN SOLICITATION WILL NOT BE ISSUED. The Request for Quotation (RFQ) number is EA133C-08-RQ-0382. In accordance with FAR 19.5 this action is reserved exclusively for small business concerns. The U.S. Department of Commerce, NOAA, National Ocean Service Requirements and Development Division, Chesapeake, VA intends to purchase on a FOB destination basis the following equipment: Item 1: Quantity of seven (7), Absolute heavy duty shaft angle encoders. Encoders must have an aluminum housing, stainless steel shaft, stainless steel bearings, aluminum cover, and a chrome on glass disk. Mounting must be square flanged and the shaft needs to contain a heavy duty seal with a three-eighth inch diameter (starting torque is 1.0 at 25 degrees celsius oz/in. max). Resolution is to have a word count of 1,024 (code type N), as well as a coding output in natural binary (N). Total resolution must have 64 turns (6 bits), but no output latch/gate feature is required. For instrumental interface, output must be serial and asynchronous (RS-232 compatible), with IC type MC1488/89. Would like direction of shaft rotation counter-clockwise and the electrical connection at a side connection (connector is bayonet style, number PT07C-14-19P with a pin count of 19). Supply voltage of 12 VDC necessary.

Item 0002: Option to purchase up to seven (7) more of item 0001 as described above at the same price within 1 year of award date.
